Made in the U.S.A.: Goods Most Commonly Exported from the United States

Each year, the United States exports trillions of dollars’ worth of goods internationally. A statistic from the Bureau of Economic Analysis cites that in 2011 alone, the U.S. exported just over $2 trillion in goods. Recently, a study conducted by the Brookings Institution titled Export Nation 2012 claims that exported goods played a large role in helping the nation overcome its economic slump following the market crash of 2008.

Another Year, Another Dollar

In 2010, the number of exports increased by over eleven percent and marked the first year in economic recovery since the beginning of the recession. 2010 was recognized as the first time in 13 years that the growth rate had increased at such an exponential rate. In the private sector, jobs supported by the exportation of goods grew by six percent. The report’s author, Emilia Istrate, went on record to state that exports have offered a lending hand in pulling the nation out of economic turmoil. Istrate also stated that the manufacturing industry accounted for over 60 percent of U.S. exports. 75 percent of the nation’s additional sales were produced abroad between 2009-10.
